INTEGRATEDAQUACULTUREHEALTH

The most critical limiting factor in the Asian shrimp farming business is availability of quality black tiger shrimp postlarvae. The traditional practice of relying on wild spawners is not only limited by susceptibility to serious viral diseases which are prevalent in wild stocks, but also by sporadic seasonal availability and lack of selective breeding benefits. In addition, traditional shrimp hatcheries often lack appropriate biosecurity and rely on antibiotics to control bacterial diseases. These limitations have led to poor financial performance and food safety concerns. As a result, many Asian shrimp farmers have switched from infected black tiger shrimp to disease-free Pacific white shrimp, even though this species is smaller and less valuable.

MISSION

The mission of IA Health is to develop and maintain populations of specific pathogen free black tiger shrimp for clients.

  • Consistent year round supply
  • Specific pathogen free (SPF)
  • Higher survival
  • Faster growth
  • Bigger final size
  • No antibiotic residues

Secondary traits such as improved growth rates and specific pathogen resistance (SPR) will be introduced over time as outcomes of the IA Breeding program.
