INTEGRATEDAQUACULTUREHEALTH

TYPICAL COMPONENTS OF IA HEALTH PROGRAM

  1. Procure founder SPF stocks through screening of local stocks or procurement of SPF stocks from IA International
  2. Validate or establish diagnostic lab
  3. Establish biosecure nucleus breeding center
  4. Establish a production maturation facility
  5. Renovate larval rearing facilities

1. Screening of Local Stocks

IA Health has experience in sourcing and screening local stocks to produce SPF lines. This process is considerably more costly and time consuming than purchasing SPF founder stocks from IA International.

2. Establish or Validate Diagnostic Lab

Emphasis will be placed on maintenance of disease-free status of shrimp throughout the production process through routine PCR testing. This is expected to yield a consistent product, which will achieve a branded status in the marketplace.

A diagnostic lab is required on site to monitor shrimp health throughout the production process. If a lab is not present, IA Health will assist in establishing one. If one is present, IA Health will inspect and validate performance of the lab.

3. Establish Biosecure Nucleus Breeding Center

To reduce the risk of disease contamination of SPF families, it is important to establish a remote breeding center located away from the immediate vicinity of commercial shrimp farms. Site selection, design, and construction of this facility are a high priority.

Although the primary task of this breeding center will be to supply the needs of the clientt, excess production will be sold through IAI to affiliated hatcheries. To avoid piracy of parent stocks, broodstock will not be sold except to IAI-controlled operations.

4. Establish a Production Maturation Facility

To produce a consistent, year-round supply of nauplii from SPF broodstock, a large-scale maturation, spawning, and hatching facility is needed.

Successful reproduction of black tiger shrimp in captivity requires conditions that mimic the natural spawning grounds in oceanic water. Temperature, salinity, and water quality must be held constant, lighting controlled, and noise levels minimized. These conditions are best achieved with use of biological filtration systems. Shrimp will be stocked in 5m diameter fiberglass maturation tanks at a rate of 50 animals per tank.

5. Renovate Larval Rearing Facilities

Modify facilities to produce biosecure systems using modular all-in/all-out technology with proper sanitation to avoid bacterial disease and necessity for antibiotic use.
