Nutrient specification of desired feed, which is a function of the nutrient requirements of the target organism. Ideally, nutrients should be expressed on an available or digestible basis. The feed specification must also define which raw materials can be utilized and what are the upper and lower limits of inclusion.

IA Nutrition & Feeds Program provides clients access to a least cost formulation system based on digestible nutrients. The Program continuously updates the nutrient values of ingredients in the formulation system as new information becomes available. For this purpose, the Program conducts periodic surveys and reviews of nutrient requirements of aquatic species and nutritive value of ingredients. The information is available in an online database that is accessible to clients.
Other formulation services include formula audits in which the client’s formulas are systematically reviewed for nutrient levels and ingredient inclusions to spot opportunities for product improvement and cost reduction.
IAI Nutrition & Feeds Program manages some feeding trials directly and others indirectly using reliable third-party facilities. An appropriate facility will be identified for a particular product development work in consultation with the client.
IAI Nutrition & Feeds Program recognizes that organizations need to keep their own technical support staff as well as customers trained and updated on technical matters. The Program can organize field training, seminars, presentations and marketing literature for clients as needed.
