INTEGRATEDAQUACULTUREPROJECTS

Integrated Aquaculture International implements projects primarily—but not exclusively—in marine shrimp farming. The projects range from providing a complete package for the integrated production of shrimp to executing specific solutions in the various components of aquaculture value chain. The projects tend to be long term, due to the very nature of health, nutrition, and genetics programs. However, short term consulting efforts are undertaken periodically to assist clients in evaluating new projects or troubleshooting existing ones.

IAI respects the proprietary nature of its relationship with each client. Every effort is made to encourage synergy among clients by intentionally seeking clients from distinct, non-competing geographic zones. The intent is to create a virtual network of non-competing partners who share a larger pool of information for their mutual benefit.

IAI’s current, active clients include:

  • Department of Fisheries, Brunei Darussalam
  •
    • The Department of Fisheries in Brunei Darussalam and IAI have undertaken a 5-year project to develop advanced aquaculture technology to produce large black tiger shrimp for export. The outputs of this project are specific-pathogen-free, genetically-improved postlarvae, high-performing feeds, and sustainable farming systems and methods that produce shrimp for premium markets. IAI has upgraded DOF facilities, including the establishment of an advanced diagnostic lab, to facilitate the production of SPF shrimp. A stock of SPF blue shrimp, Litopenaeus stylirostris, has been sourced, spawned, and established as the founder stock for an ongoing breeding program. Stocks of black tiger shrimp, Penaeus monodon, have been established and moved from primary quarantine to secondary quarantine toward potential SPF status. A selective breeding program has been designed for both shrimp species. Feeding trials and other nutrition experiments are in progress targeting the development of a high performance feed for the operations.
